About us

A farm, a licence, and a long view

Malawi CannaGrow grows medicinal cannabis in Malawi for licensed international markets. Here is how we got here and how we work.

Why Malawi

Malawi has grown for export for a very long time — tobacco, tea, sugar, macadamia, pulses. The knowledge is already here: how to read a season, how to run a nursery, how to move a crop off the land and into a shed before the weather turns. Medicinal cannabis is a new crop in a country that is not new to farming.

Why medicinal cannabis

When Malawi passed its Cannabis Regulation Act in 2020 and established the Cannabis Regulation Authority, it created a legal route for cultivation under licence. That gave farmers here something rare: a high-value crop with real international demand and a regulator to answer to. We took it seriously, and we applied.

The founders' vision

Malawi CannaGrow was started by people with agricultural backgrounds rather than pharmaceutical ones. The intention was never to build a laboratory. It was to build a farm that international buyers could rely on — well run, well documented, and honest about what it can and cannot do this season.

Responsible farming

We work within the licence conditions we hold, keep the site secure, record what goes into every crop and keep our inputs conservative. Where a practice is standard in export horticulture, we adopt it. Where a claim would need a certificate we don't yet hold, we leave it out.

Supporting local communities

Most of our team lives within reach of the farm. Employment is permanent where the work allows it and seasonal where it doesn't, and we train people on the job — propagation, irrigation, harvest handling, record keeping. Skills that stay in the district whatever happens to any one crop.

Long-term partnerships

We are more interested in a buyer who returns each season than in a single large consignment. That shapes how we plan plantings, how we price, and how much we're willing to promise before the crop is in the ground.

Export opportunity

Growing into a market that is still forming

Medicinal cannabis programmes across Europe, the UK, Australia and Israel continue to expand, and licensed buyers increasingly look to African cultivation for sunlight-grown supply. We are building for that demand steadily, not speculatively.
